Creating Space for What Matters

Sometimes More Wellbeing Starts with Less

When we want to feel better, our first instinct is often to add something.

A new habit. A new routine. A new wellness practice.

But what if the next step isn’t adding more? What if it’s creating a little more space?

Many women move through their days carrying far more than what’s visible.

Appointments. Responsibilities. Conversations. Notifications. Mental checklists that seem to run in the background from morning until night. Even when we’re sitting still, our minds are often busy.

That’s why one of the most supportive things we can do for our wellbeing is create moments of space.

Space to think. Space to breathe. Space to notice how we’re feeling. This doesn’t require a weekend retreat or hours of free time. Often, it’s found in small moments throughout the day.

A walk without headphones. A meal without scrolling. A few quiet minutes before the rest of the household wakes up. Turning off notifications for an hour. Sitting outside and simply observing what’s around you.

These moments may seem simple, but they give our minds an opportunity to reset.

Just as a cluttered room can feel overwhelming, a constantly busy mind can make it difficult to feel calm, focused, and energized.

Creating space isn’t about doing less because you’re giving up. It’s about creating room for the things that matter most. The things that help you feel grounded, present, and connected to yourself.

As summer begins to wind down, this can be a powerful time to pause and ask: What do I want more of in my life? And what might I need less of? Sometimes the most supportive environment isn’t the one that gives us more. It’s the one that asks less of us.

3 Simple Actions This Week

✓ Choose one 10-minute period each day to be completely free from notifications, emails, or screens.

✓ Take one walk this week without listening to anything — simply notice your surroundings.

✓ Ask yourself: “What is one thing I can let go of this week to create a little more space for myself?”

The Way You Speak to Yourself Matters

There is one voice you hear more than any other: your own. Yet many of us pay little attention to the way we speak to ourselves throughout the day. This week’s The Vital 5 reflection explores how self-talk influences our wellbeing, resilience, and ability to navigate challenges. Often, we offer more understanding and compassion to others than we do to ourselves. By becoming more aware of the conversations happening in our minds, we can begin to create a more supportive inner environment. Because sometimes the most meaningful change doesn’t come from doing something differently – it comes from changing the voice that accompanies us along the way.
